Butler Named Associate Dean of Extended Learning at CSUSM

Keith Butler has been named associate dean of Extended Learning at California State University San Marcos, announced Dean Jan Jackson. The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2008.

“I am so pleased that Keith has agreed to join the Extended Learning team,” said Jackson. “With his rich business experience and his background in educational leadership, I can think of no one better suited for this role.  I know our program and the region will benefit enormously from his entrepreneurial business experience and his academic background in educational leadership.  He just brings so much to the table.”

Butler joined CSUSM in 2000 as the MBA operations manager, then became the director of operations for the College of Business Administration in 2004.  Prior to CSUSM, he was in private industry for 17 years, including experience in consumer-oriented banking as well as co-owner of a wholesale bakery.

Butler received a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Claremont McKenna College in 1984, an MBA degree in 1997 from Cal State San Marcos and a PhD in Educational Leadership and Higher Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2007.

Extended Learning serves as the academic outreach arm of CSUSM.  As a unit within the Academic Affairs Division, Extended Learning is North San Diego County’s premier provider of continuing education and training programs, both for degree and professional credit, and for noncredit. Cal State San Marcos, and—by extension, Extended Learning—is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
