CSUSM to Close Admissions for Fall 2008 Jan. 31
California State University San Marcos will close admissions for the fall 2008 semester by end of day on Jan. 31. Due to an unprecedented nine percent increase in transfer applicants over the previous priority period, the university had already achieved its target enrollment for the year and moved to “space available” consideration for first time freshman and transfer applicants on Dec. 1.
“Applications submitted between then and January 31, 2008, will only be considered if enrollment space is available,” said Darren Bush, associate vice president of enrollment management services. “A determination of our ability to consider these applications will be made in early summer.”
Most of the CSUs will close admissions for the fall cycle by February 1 under a system-wide mandate imposed by Charles B. Reed, chancellor for the California State University system, following a proposed $312.9 million cut to the CSU’s budget. However, under-enrolled campuses will be allowed to stay open to new first-time freshmen applications until March 1st. These campuses are Los Angeles, Dominguez Hills, East Bay, San Bernardino, Sacramento, Bakersfield, and Monterey Bay.
