CSUSM Awards Palomar Pomerado Health with the Community Engagement Award
President Karen S. Haynes of California State University San Marcos presented Palomar Pomerado Health (PPH) with the university’s second annual Community Engagement Award in recognition of its invaluable support in launching the university’s nursing program in 2006.
“We know that by continuing to set the bar this high, the credibility and prestige of the award will continue to be enhanced, and therefore worthy of the important and worthwhile collaboration represented between our organizations,” said President Haynes.
Bruce Krider, chairman of the PPH Board of Directors, accepted the award on behalf PPH Feb. 7 at CSUSM’s annual Report to the Community. Approximately 300 regional leaders from government, business, cultural and service organizations attended.
PPH committed $2.5-million to convert 15,000 square feet of space at the San Marcos Ambulatory Care Center to create the PPH Center for Health Education, which houses the university’s nursing school and resource lab center.
Today, more than 85 students attend the school. Classrooms are state of the art and include a 50-seat computer lab, a six-station skills lab, and three fully-equipped hospital simulation rooms with nursing stations that closely resemble the design of hospital patient rooms planned for future PPH facilities. The Center is the only wireless nursing education facility in San Diego County utilizing telemedical equipment and video conferencing.
The Community Engagement Award is presented annually to the community partner best exemplifying the spirit of collaboration and community engagement in addressing regional issues.
