CSUSM Plans Forum on Diversity and Equity May 6
Are we who we say we are? That will be one of the central topics to be discussed at an upcoming forum on diversity and equity to be held Tuesday, May 6 from noon to 2:30 p.m. in Room 5102 of the Kellogg Library at California State University San Marcos. Admission is free, but RSVP by May 5 to kglover@csusm.edu. Lunch is included.
The forum is facilitated by CSUSM faculty members Karen S. Glover, assistant professor of sociology, and Delores B. Lindsey, assistant professor of educational leadership, and funded by the Office of Educational Equity & Diversity.
Following up on conversations introduced at a recent symposium by CSUSM’s Institute for Social Justice and Equity, this event will provide opportunities to:
• engage in structured conversations related to the university's vision and mission for socially just classrooms and campus life;
• continue a dialogue of faculty assessment concerning if and how we are practicing the diversity and equity goals set forth by the university community on issues related to teaching, faculty recruiting, hiring and retaining faculty, research, and service;
• pose questions and exchange ideas and practices based on individual and college-level efforts to put stated diversity and equity goals into practice;
• cultivate a sense of faculty collective accountability so that we may more effectively reach our goals.
