CSUSM Police Plan Sobriety Check April 10

What:
Sobriety Checkpoint

When:
10 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2008

Location:
CSU San Marcos area (Exact location will be announced on the day of the Checkpoint)

Why:
In its continuing efforts to reduce drunk and impaired driving, the University Police will be conducting a DUI Checkpoint.  The checkpoint, which is designed to supplement routine impaired driving enforcement, will be clearly marked and held at a location near the campus where there are established D.U.I. and alcohol related problems.

Vehicles will be selected to move through a check lane on a preset basis to ensure objectivity and timeliness.  The brief discussion between the driver and the officer rarely exceeds 30 seconds, unless the driver is asked to take a field coordination test for sobriety.  All drivers proceeding through the checkpoint will be given an informational pamphlet describing the impact of impaired driving.
