CSUSM’s Senior Experience Program Hits Milestone
The Senior Experience program at California State University San Marcos is about to hit a milestone –on completion of the current semester, the program will have completed 15 years of service with more than a thousand projects involving over 400 regional companies and organizations and an estimated 4,400 students.
“As the only program of its kind in the country, I think we have reason to celebrate,” says Dennis Guseman, dean of the College of Business Administration. The celebration is scheduled for Thursday May 15 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. Local business leaders are invited to attend and admission is free.
In Senior Experience, a required course for all business majors at CSUSM, student teams are put to work on real world business problems for both profit and non-profit organizations, explained Guseman. “In 15 years, 92 percent of our clients have rated themselves either “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the results.”
Participating organizations range from large firms such as San Diego Gas & Electric and QUALCOMM to small one-person startups and government agencies such as the San Diego Police Department. Participation in the program is free for non-profit companies and just $1,000 for others. That’s a pretty good value, according to Guseman, who said that many companies set the real-world value of the service at more than $10,000 if contracted to established consultants.
